| The Battle For Berlin...1945 |
|
The Germans in 1945 were not the same force they were in 1940. Long since on the defensive against superior Allied forces, they were a battered army fighting for their survival. With American and British forces on the Elbe river, the Russians were ready to take on the final battle for Berlin. This last battle would be fought by experienced Russian troops against a rag tag army of whatever the Germans could scrape together. Even though this was the case, the Russians would suffer close to a million casualties in taking the capitol of Nazi Germany and bringing "The Thousand Year Reich" to it's close after six years of war. |
